The Roslyn Landmark Legacy (RLL), a division of the Roslyn Landmarks Society, is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history and cultural heritage of our community. Using multimedia initiatives—such as interactive virtual tours, lectures, and digital storytelling—RLL brings the past to life in engaging, accessible ways. These projects allow visitors o explore the stories behind the scene, deepening their connection to the historical significance woven into every corner of our community.

Roslyn Grist Mill Renovation:  On-Going

 Expected completion date 2025

Discover the Roslyn Grist Mill’s historical significance and its transformative impact on our community. This 18th-century structure, one of the last remaining Dutch-framed watermills in the country, is a symbol of Roslyn’s industrial past and cultural heritage. The Grist Mill’s renovation is more than just preservation; it’s a revitalization project aimed at reconnecting the community with its roots, providing a space where history comes alive.

Restoring Elegance: The Mackay Estate Gate Lodge Preservation Project: On-Going

​The Mackay Estate Gate, an iconic landmark in Roslyn, is a grand entrance to the historic estate once owned by industrialist Clarence Mackay. Designed in the early 20th century, its intricate ironwork and architectural details reflect the opulence of the estate’s Gilded Age heritage. The ongoing restoration of the gate aims to preserve its original craftsmanship, ensuring that this piece of Roslyn’s architectural history remains a symbol of the village’s rich past for generations to come.

In the lecture, she delves into the stark contrast between the extravagant lifestyles of the wealthy and the challenging, often invisible existence of the servants who maintained their lavish homes. Through vivid narratives and historical details, Esther Crain sheds light on the social dynamics, daily routines, and personal stories of those who worked "below the stairs," offering a unique perspective on this transformative period in New York City's history. The lecture was organized by the Roslyn Landmark Society and Trinity Episcopal Church.
